The Police Investigation

After you have reported the crime or an adult has done it for you, the investigating police officer will try to find out what happened. The police officer will take statements from you and other witnesses and collect all the evidence.

Your statement can be a visually recorded statement or a written statement. If you make a written statement then you will be given a copy. Remember that even though you make a statement, you may still need to answer questions in Court.

Statements will be taken from other witnesses, but evidence can also be physical objects taken from the scene of the crime like photos, clothing or text messages, emails, downloads from Facebook or Myspace
